Justice David graduated from the University of Papua New Guinea in early 1981 having completed studies for a degree of Bachelor of Laws (LLB) in 1980. He obtained his Master of Laws (LLM) degree on 3 May 1984 having completed studies for a degree of Master of Laws in 1983 from the Victoria University of Wellington, Wellington, New Zealand. He was provisionally admitted to practice as a lawyer (Barrister & Solicitor) in 1981 and was admitted to practice as a lawyer on 22 October 1984.
His career commenced in private practice with Gadens Lawyers, as a practising lawyer from 1981 to 1986. He subsequently established a successful career in private practice, working as a sole practitioner and in partnership through the firms Kassman, David & Namaliu and Namaliu & David from 1987 until June 2004.
In June 2004, he was appointed as an Acting Judge of the National Court of Justice of Papua New Guinea. His appointment as a Judge of the Supreme and National Courts followed in June 2005. In recognition of his expertise, integrity, and service to the judiciary, he was reappointed for a second term in June 2015 and for a third term in June 2025.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to law and public service, he was appointed a Companion of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George (CMG) on 10 October 2020 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Queen and Head of State of Papua New Guinea.
He was sworn in as a Justice of the Court of Appeal on 25 August 2025.
