Vinay Sharma

Mr Vinay Sharma serves as the Resident Magistrate of the District Court of Nauru, having been appointed on 29 February 2024 following his service as Acting Resident Magistrate from December 2023. He also serves as Chairperson of the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal and the Police Service Board.

Prior to his appointment, Mr Sharma served as a Judge’s Associate at the Supreme Court of Nauru from October 2022 until is appointment as the Acting Resident Magistrate. He was also the Registrar of the Family Division of the High Court of Fiji prior to his appointment in Nauru.

Mr Sharma holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) and Professional Diploma in Legal Practice from the University of the South Pacific. He has also earned a Master of Laws in Family Law with Merit from the University of London. He was admitted as a legal practitioner to the High Court of Fiji in 2011 and has extensive experience in judicial administration, family law, legal ethics, mediation, and court management. He is an accredited mediator and has undertaken specialised training in family law, human rights, child rights, and judicial practice.
